The National Theatre's Annual Report for 2017/2018 reveals that it had an income of 107m, up 2.3m on the previous year, with 3.3m attendances worldwide, including NT Live screenings, playing to 91% capacity on the South Bank, down from 93% the previous year.

On The Casting Couch: Nicholas Day, Grace Doherty, Nicholas Farrell, Andrea Hall, Kevin Harvey, Edward Hogg, Lyndsey Marshal, Clara Read and Rick Warden will feature in Henrik Ibsen's The Wild Duck, opening Almeida Theatre on 23rd October

The autumn season at Upstairs At The Gatehouse, in Highgate Village, will include Prairie Flower, a one man bio play about 1960s East End gangster Danny O'Halloran, written and performed by Ryan Simms, directed by Paul Caister, from 12th September; Henrik Ibsen's John Gabriel Borkman, about a man disgraced following a fraud scandal and imprisonment, and the ramifications it has on his family, with Judi Bowker, Harry Meacher, Zara Banks and Bryan Hands, directed by Harry Meacher, from 6th November; and the British premiere of the 'new' Gershwin musical, Nice Work If You Can Get It, book by Joe DiPietro, inspired by material from Guy Bolton and P G Wodehouse, score from the George and Ira Gershwin back catalogue, a comedy about a Long Island playboy and his entanglements with bootleggers and gold diggers, directed by John Plews, from 12th December.

Ben Brown's A Splinter Of Ice, exploring the friendship of novelist Graham Greene and exposed Russian spy Kim Philby during their meeting in Moscow in 1963, will open at the Theatre Royal Windsor on 2nd October.

The 2018/2019 season at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield will include Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, with Patricia Allison, Donna Berlin, Phil Cheadle, Pandora Colin, Bobby Delaney, Liam Gerrard, Rebecca Jayne-Davies, Toheeb Jimoh, Lorne McFadyen, Evelyn Miller, Francesca Mills, Sophia Nomvete, Daniel Rigby and Samuel Townsend, directed by Robert Hastie, opening on 2nd October; the musical Kiss Me, Kate, book by Sam and Bella Spewack, music and lyrics by Cole Porter, the backstage story of a touring production of The Taming Of The Shrew with a feuding ex-married couple playing the leading roles, directed by Paul Foster, with choreography by Matt Flint, opening on 12th December; and Githa Sowerby's Rutherford And Son, about the struggle for control of a family business between a father and his rebellious daughter, in the period just before the First World War, directed by Caroline Steinbeis, opening on 12th February.

Forthcoming productions at the Old Red Lion Theatre, at the Angel Islington, will include a contemporary interpretation of George Farquhar's The Recruiting Officer, the Restoration comedy of sex, money and the military, opening on 9th November, in repertory with the premiere of Charlie Ryall's Indebted To Chance, imagining events surrounding actress Charlotte Clarke during rehearsals for an 18th century production of George Farquhar's play, opening on 8th November, both plays directed by Jenny Eastop.
